Livingston Parish Students Earn Honor Band Selections
LIVINGSTON, La. – High school and middle school band members from across Livingston Parish were recently selected for honor bands at the parish, district, and state levels.
Eight high school instrumentalists were selected for All-State Ensembles.
Students earning this designation were required to compete in a two-round audition process. Instrumentalists were required to demonstrate rudimentary skills, including playing major scales and providing evidence of basic composition knowledge. They also had to perform prepared selections and sight-read short selections. Qualified students were allowed to audition for multiple instruments.
The state ensembles with Livingston Parish students include:
- Louisiana’s 2023 All-State Guitar Ensemble -- Sean Harris, Denham Springs
- Louisiana’s 2023 All-State Symphonic Band – Selena Stafford, flute, Walker; Noach Blount, tenor saxophone, Denham Springs; Ethan Brister, baritone saxophone, Walker; and Jeremy McGee, trombone, Walker.
- All-State Orchestra – Alexander Gilfour, violin, Denham Springs; William Schutz, bassoon, Doyle.
- All-State Concert Band -- Brayden Tate, Tuba, Denham Springs
Livingston Parish placed 47 students on the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA) District IV honor bands. The students competed against more than 1,100 students from Ascension (east of the Mississippi River), East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, St. James (east of the Mississippi River), West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana parishes. A total of 298 seats were filled by the District IV honor bands (two bands at middle school and two at high school).
